Individual Note:
OBITUARY: (Tri-Town News, February, 1999) WALTON - Bruce Constable Budine, 80, a well-respected Walton man, died Monday, February 15, 1999, at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, following an extended illness. Mr. Budine had been a resident of Countryside Care Center, Delhi, for the past three weeks.
He was born in Loomis on May 25, 1918, he was the son of Herman and Nina Constable Budine.
He attended Walton High School, and on June 3, 1940, he married the former Wanda Wilber in Walton.
Mr. Budine worked for Jess F. Howes for a number of years before moving on to work in Bill Vail’s garage. He retired in 1981, after 26 1/2 years, ending his career as distribution manager.
Always interested in his community, Mr. Budine served as a village trustee for a number of years, but truly made his mark as town supervisor, serving from 1976-1987. He will be well-remembered for his dedication to any cause that he took up.
Seldom able to sit still for long, Mr. Budine also gave his time to other organizations, serving on the boards of the Sidney Federal Credit Union and Delaware Valley Hospital, of which he was past president. He had also been chief of the Walton Fire Department, and served on the Republican Town Committee.
Mr. Budine was a Mason, and had also belonged to the Walton Kiwanis Club. He was a 41-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Walton, of which he was a trustee and president. He had also served as chair of Council Ministries and as church treasurer.
Although he was an adept businessman, Mr. Budine had a soft side, which he shared gladly with his friends and family, particularly his grandchildren. The sun rose and set over the heads of his grandchildren, and as far as he was concerned, they could d0 no wrong.
Until his illness, Mr. Budine was a fervent regular with the coffee crowd that gathered daily to discuss village business. He will be well-remembered for his sense of humor, his strong opinions and his nonpartisan attitude.
Surviving Mr. Budine, besides his wife at home, are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Walter Truman of Walton; his grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Katherine Roberts of Hopewell, N.J., and Jennifer and Paul Hutkowski of Pittsford; a great-granddaughter, Lily Hutkowski of Pittsford; a brother, Percy of Countryside Care Center, Delhi; a sister, Betty LaRose of Unadilla and several nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Roland and a sister, Lois Kishbaugh.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at 1 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Walton, with the Rev. L. Lawrence Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Sidney Center Cemetery.
Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church, North Street, Walton, NY. 13856 or to the Walton Emergency Squad, West Street, Walton, NY. 13856.
