Individual Note:
      James Frances was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada at the time his father was serving in the army at Louisburg Fort against the French. Moved to Ulster New York about 1758.
        James Frances was in the Ulster County Miltia Third Regiment as an enlisted man during the Revolutionary War. He was eligible for Land Bounty Rights. The Federal Government may have service and pension records. He may also have taken part in the battle of Saratoga because of location.
        1790 Federal census: James Frances lived on farm in Town of Middletown, NY. Also listed on Middleton farms are Matthew, William and Jacobus Phoenix (unknown relationships).
