     THROUGH THE YEARS (TTY): p. 129: "May 8, 1912 (SE)-“Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Smith recently purchased of George Huyck, all the land remaining of the original Sluman Wattles estate, consisting of about 8 acres and for which they paid $800. G.A. Simpson bought the house and part of the land several years ago and presented it to his daughter, Mrs. Smith, who conducts a lucrative poultry business and now has sufficient land in which to keep 2,000 hens.”
        MISC: Nettie was Edwin Augustine Smith’s second wife. His first wife, Florence Grace Beck, died after childbirth. Florence and Edwin had two children, Edwin George Smith and Margaret Emily Smith.

     Mrs. Mary A. Simpson, 84, passed away at her home, 20 Clinton Street, Sidney, on Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Tuesday at 2 p.m., and burial was in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center. Rev. Roger Glazier officiated. Mrs. Simpson was born in Sand Hill, N.Y. on July 4, 1870, the daughter of Albert and Armenia (Spencer) Youngs. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Howard LaTourette of Sidney; a sister, Mrs. L.R. Long of New Kingston, N. Y.; a brother, Frank Youngs of Youngs, N. Y., and a sister, Mrs. Arthur Rutenber of Sidney Center; also two grandchildren, Gordon LaTourette of New Haven, Conn., and Linda LaTourette of Sidney. Mrs. Simpson had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years.

        p 15: "Doris LaTourette came from Port Crane (to a musical presentation May 9, 1987 at the Sidney Center United Methodist Church)."
        MISC:
Doris (SS# 103-30-4476) was born to Grant Smith and Caroline Jones probably in Clarendon, NY. She was adopted in 1910 by Albert H. Simpson and his wife, Mary. She may have had a child, whose tombstone reads "Judith Mae LaTourette September 10, 1941" and can be found next to Albert Simpson and Mary Youngs grave in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center, N.Y.

      From TTY p211: "21 Feb 1903 (WR) - Because of almost continual absence from home, E.A. Smith has resigned his office of Constable in this place and Matthew Benedict has been appointed to fill his vacancy."
        From TTY p179: "11 Jun 1913 (SE) - M. Benedict has been suffering from heart trouble for the past week and unable to attend to his duties as RFD carrier. Edwin Smith has been acting as substitute carrier on Route #1." Accompanying photo's caption reads: "Edwin A. Smith - Rural Mail Carrier - 1914, Sidney Center."

        From TTY p53: Aug. 1, 1914 (WR) - "The Misses Barton of New York City have let the contract for the building of their contemplated mausoleum in the Sidney Center Cemetery to Phelps and Gibson of Sidney. Work will begin on the foundation at once.
        Aug. 15, 1914(WR) - The foundation for the Barton Mausoleum in the Sidney Center village cemetery has been completed and when sufficiently hard, will be ready for placing of the granite, which is being fitted in the quarries in Vermont.
        Oct. 24, 1914(WR) - The granite for the Barton Mausoleum arrived Monday and is being drawn to the cemetery. The two roof stones weigh ten tons."
