QUOTATIONS: Written by her mother (Anne) to her father (Gerdon):
"May 1, 1941 - Anne Roberta - born in the "former parlor" bedroom - with Aunt Minnie as nurse - staying in bed for 10 days - laying flat the 7th day so things would 'go back in place' ? - and the beautiful bouquet of apple blossoms you picked. - I remember later going to a movie on a very rare night out - and being called home by Grandma & Aunt Min - cause Anne held her breath?
[Written later...] "Little Oscar the duck - who ran so fast after the kids that he had 'yellow wheels?' & how he followed them everywhere - till a fox took him one night while we were milking?"
OBITUARY: (Raleigh News & Observer, Nov 3 2006) Anne Budine Simpson, 65, passed away into the presence of the Lord on Monday, October 30, 2006, at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, N.C.
Anne was born in Walton, NY on May 1, 1941 to the late Gerdon and Anne Budine. She was a graduate of Walton High School and lived in Sidney, NY until 1967. In 1993, she retired as cafeteria manager for Durham Life Insurance in Raleigh. She was baptized by Pastor David Cooper on Sep 8, 1974 at Belair Baptist Church in Bowie, MD and was a very strong Christian. Over the years, she taught children's Sunday school and arranged countless church dinners, using her renowned cooking talents. In 2004, she received WTVD ABC 11’s Jefferson Award Certificate of Recognition for her hard work and commitment to improving the quality of life in her community. At her passing she was co-leader of the education team and moderator of the board of deacons at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
In 1979, she joined the Auxiliary of The Gideons International, and served for many years in nearly every office, including Auxiliary President of the Raleigh North camp.
Anne had a legion of friends, and loved them all. She was deeply missed by her family and by the many people whose lives she’d touched over the years. She was everyone’s best friend, confidante, and “other Mom”-always willing to lend her undivided attention and sympathetic ear. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
A memorial service was held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 East Whitaker Mill Road, Raleigh, NC at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2006, following which the family received friends.
Her husband of 46 years, Patrick Simpson, and three children; David Simpson and Thomas Simpson, from Raleigh; and Diana Feaver, from Mahopac, NY, survive her. Her daughter, Patricia Simpson, predeceased her in 2001. Anne also left behind three sisters, Lucille Dewey and Kay King of Sidney Center, NY and Marian Striesse of Hartwick, NY; and two brothers, Robert Budine of Davenport, NY and John Budine of Oneonta, NY. One of her greatest pleasures was being grandmother to her five grandchildren: Michael, Krystal, Alexis, Raven and Charlie.
