      OBITUARY - Walton Reporter: April, 1919: Marcus Benedict, aged 71 years, a veteran of the Civil war, and a much respected resident of the town of Sidney, died Wednesday, April 22. Mr. Benedict was born near Sidney Center on the farm where he had always lived until his health failed, about ten years ago, when he moved to a home in this village. He was assessor for ten years and a member of Bradford Post, G.A.R., under whose direction the committal service was conducted.

      1840 USA Census: Caleb and family were listed in the as residents of the Town of Sidney, Delaware County, NY.
        1850 USA Census: July 31, 1850, Town of Sidney, Delaware County, NY State, page 68, dwelling 29, family #30 lists Caleb St. John Benedict as a 47-year-old farmer with $3000 in real estate. His wife, Elisa, was 44 and born in Connecticut. Also listed are: son Curtis, a 21-year-oldfarmer; Daniel W., an 18-year-old farmer; Mary E., 15; Stephen J., 13; Mathew, 11; George L., age 9; Marcus W., age 7; and Sarah Jane, age 4. All the children were born in NY State.

      OBITUARY - found in Beardsley Bible in Frazier Farmstead Museum, Milton-Freewater, Oregon: "Died in Wells Bridge, March 28, 1878, Zachariah Beardsley, aged 69 years and 9 months."
        He was a carpenter, a farmer and a Baptist. The 1860 Federal census, taken on June 28, 1860, lists Zachariah, age 52, living with Mary his wife, age 52. Son Theodore and his wife Mary, married within the year, lived with them as farmers in Unadilla, county Otsego, NY. Zachariah had real estate worth $3,300 and personal wealth of $400. He and his wife were both born in Connecticut. Nearby lived Jonathan Beardsley (66) and wife Anna (63). Living with them were children Nathan (32), Ephraim (28), and Martin (26). Jonathan may have been a relative of Zachariah. Jonathan, Anna, and Nathan were born in Connecticut; Ephraim and Martin in NY State. Jonathan had $3800 in real estate and $176 in personal property.
